Reflection on Impact of New BIM Integrations with Manufacton

Autodesk Revit holds a special place in my heart. In 1999 I joined Revit Technology Corporation to head-up their support organization and continued the journey with Autodesk after Revit Technology was acquired. Now I am doing the same for Manufacton as we are engaging in a close partnership with Autodesk and develop a Manufacton plug-in for Autodesk Revit. I have every confidence that this Integration will accelerate the journey of bringing the best of manufacturing into the construction industry.

Revit is the world class solution for visualizing all kinds of building information. Adoption of the coordinated Revit model is extending beyond the design phase and into the construction phase, allowing for a more clear delegation and visualization of work.des Now, with the integration to Manufacton, this extends to visualizing a project’s supply chain of prefabricated and material items from early design and planning, into and through the fabrication shop, right through to on site delivery and beyond.

The Autodesk Revit integration with Manufacton allows for a number of strategic initiatives to be managed and visualized:

Early Planning – Performing early stage planning on which systems make sense to prefab. Capturing that information in Manufacton and an Autodesk Revit model serves to help ensure the project is as high-quality, low-cost, safe and efficient as possible.

Granting / Winning Awards – Identifying or being the right subcontractor who has a solid understanding of exactly what and how to prefab their systems. Working with Manufacton in a coordinated Revit model also allows visibility throughout the project team to confirm that each scope of the work is picked up on both the macro and micro level. On the macro level, general contractors can identify trade coverage does not result in gaps in scope of work, eliminating associated cost and schedule impacts. On the micro level, installers can perform material or system take-offs directly in the coordinated model. Missed items are readily observable, reducing material shortages once prefabrication or on-site installation begins.

During Construction – Knowing exactly where in the process each critical construction item is, and being able to visualize it in an Autodesk Revit model or Forge viewer helps eliminate risk and generate opportunities during the construction phase. From precast foundations, to the curtainwalls, MEP and all the other systems and materials, right up to the roof AHUs, every deliverable can be managed and visualized.

With more general contractors and trades leveraging the efficiencies of prefabrication, more project owners demanding lower cost and higher quality and tighter job-sites and regulations requiring just-in-time delivery and other LEAN practices, the ability to visually manage exactly who and when building components are being delivered is an increasingly essential part of an overall construction project management process. Manufacton and Autodesk Revit deliver those essential tools.
